Hide the Outcast, 2021, 15x20 Screen Print

Louis De Groot (1929-2020) was a hidden Jewish child in the Netherlands. When he entered the home of Dirk and Ann Onderweegs he saw these words in needle point from Isaiah 16:3, "Hide the outcasts, do not betray the fugitive."15x20

I visited Rav Adin Steinsaltz on Sunday, June 23, 2013, in Jerusalem.  I had been warned that meeting a living Tzadik is a disturbing and unsettling experience. This print is an echo of that encounter.

Uphold the Widow 2021, 15x20 Screen Print

The Hebrew letter LAMED refers to the word ‘lamad’, signifying both teaching and learning and is an acronym of lev mevin daat (a heart that understands wisdom).  Isaiah 1:17 begins, "Learn to do good. Devote yourselves to justice;  Aid the wronged. Uphold the rights of the orphan; Defend the cause of the widow."
